Melon
The Australian Melon Association is the voice of the Australian Melon Industry. The Australian Melon Industry consists of over 300 growers producing approximately 217,000 tonnes of melons on 8,500 hectares. The major fruit types grown are rockmelons, honeydew melons and watermelons. Melons are grown in all states and territories of Australia except for the ACT and Tasmania. There are about 12 main production regions. Each region has different climatic conditions, production systems, harvesting and packing methods and market outlets. Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales are major producers with Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory producing lower but significant volumes.
