Ducasse Banana
Ducasse, more commonly known as Sugar, is the most popular banana grown in north Queensland ackyards. This is due to its vigorous growth, general resistance to leaf spot disease and agreeable taste. Additionally Ducasse and its dwarf cousin Kluai Namwa Khom are 2 of the 9 black Sigatoka resistant varieties that have been distributed in Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait as part of the banana replacement program. On the commercial scene there has been some increase in plantings of Ducasse recently because of the higher prices that can be received particularly in the light of gluts in Cavendish production which have occurred.
